Thirty Years of Pearls

by | Jun 3, 2026

It turns out that I have had many patients named Pearl over the years, so it may be appropriate that this is our Pearl Anniversary here at Browns Point Veterinary Clinic. How quickly time goes by!

The person who started the practice in 1986, Dr. Louisa Beal, is a friend of mine and we work together on the board of Noah’s Pet Project, a local charitable veterinary clinic I started with friends over 20 years ago. And you can do the math, Dr Beal retired from her practice after ten years and she sold it to me.

I am so grateful to you, my clients and my patients (don’t your cats and dogs read this?) for the many years of choosing us as your trusted vet team. The staff I have had over these many years have given so much of their time and caring; receptionists, assistants and vet techs, as well as some volunteers and of course my amazing office manager – I would not be here without the help of all of you. Colleen, Kitty, Tovah, Tom and Markiva, you are rock stars!

This year we’re rolling out some big changes at our clinic. We have an increasing demand for acupuncture, chiropractic and herbal medicine. I am so happy to have the expert help of relief vets Dr. Rebecca Johnson and Dr. Brittany Schaezler, who work with the Western medicine side of the practice, allowing me to see more patients for complementary therapies.

We have computerized the clinic, allowing better communication with other hospitals, within our hospital, and with our clients, as we can send labwork, invoices and reminders electronically. But we maintain our human touch, enjoying every tail wag, purr and whisker! We also have a new class 4 Cold Laser for our patients – see previous articles about how this therapy can help pets heal.

So what’s next? I will be gone for a week this month at the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine meeting, this year conveniently in Seattle! Our vet team will continue to enhance our wellness with fun outings, birthday celebrations, and plenty of chocolate. I am giving a lecture about veterinary acupuncture in September. And there will be more articles, here on the website and on my Substack page, where I feature information on herbal medicine for pets. Through Noah’s Pet Project, we continue to support our neighbors in need. Check us out on Facebook too!
